Program Mission & Goals
Mission:
The mission of the VASNHS Dietetic Internship is to offer a supportive learning environment in a challenging and dynamic program with a focus on medical nutrition therapy and culinary excellence. Our program is designed to promote innovative, evidenced-based, patient-centered nutrition services, which prepares our graduates to be highly functioning, competent entry-level registered dietitians and future leaders for the profession of dietetics.
Goals:
- Program graduates will be prepared with the hands-on experience, skills and ability required to obtain professional credentials and become entry-level practitioners in the field of dietetics.
- Program graduates will be prepared to become leaders in the field of dietetics.
Objectives:
- Trainee satisfaction: At least 85% of graduates completing the DI Graduate Survey will agree that “the VASNHS dietetic internship was a challenging and dynamic program that provided a supportive and effective learning environment.”
- Program completion: At least 80% of Track 1 program trainees complete program requirements within 13 months. At least 80% of Track 2 program trainees complete program requirements within 23 months.
- Graduate employment: Of graduates who seek employment, at least 75% are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.
- Graduate performance on Registration Exam:
- At least 80% of program graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.
- The program’s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%.
- Employer satisfaction: 75% of graduate skills, knowledge and abilities are rated by employers as “entry-level” or higher, for entry-level practice across all survey areas.
- Leadership Involvement: At least 50% of graduate survey respondents completing the DI Graduate Survey will indicate participation in at least one activity or role that continues to build or utilize leadership skills within 12 months of program completion.
