Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center

Dietetic Internship Director

I am happy to be able to share information about the Dietetic Internship Program at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (LSCVAMC). This Dietetic Internship is part of the 18-month Combined Dietetic Internship/Master's Degree Program (CDI/MDP) established in 1965 with Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). The program has a long history of preparing outstanding dietitians who go on to pursue many different avenues of professional practice. I am proud to say the program provides rigorous, hands-on experiences with seasoned preceptors in clinical, community, and foodservice systems management practice areas.

A stipend of $25,200 is paid over the 12 months (49 weeks) of the internship while students are completing their supervised practice experience.

Students have told me that they have been discouraged from applying to programs that offer stipends because "They are too competitive." While it is true that we are seeking excellent students, I am happy to review your application if you meet the academic criteria (3.0 GPA). You should also be aware that we do not limit the number of students we will accept from a single school. There is no application fee so do not hesitate to submit your material.

Interns, who enter the program with a completed Master's degree and a DPD verification statement, will receive the internship verification statement in July and be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians. Interns, who need to complete a Master's degree and supervised practice experience, will be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians after the Master's degree is conferred and they receive their verification statement.

Keep in mind that we will assist you to find employment in the government or private sector upon graduation. As a national employer, the government provides opportunities for career advancement!
