Nutrition and Food Services is committed to providing high quality and technologically current, medical nutrition care and food service, and to promoting patient health education and professional education in cooperation with Case Western Reserve University.

Mission of the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center's [LSCVAMC] Dietetic Internship Program:
The program will provide a foundation in research and evidence-based nutrition practice, interdisciplinary team experiences, and broad exposure to specialty and advanced level practice to prepare graduates to become entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists who deliver competent nutritional care to Veterans and the public in a compassionate and ethical manner.

Dietetic Internship Program Goals

The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center's Dietetic Internship Program will:

Goal #1: Prepare graduates to begin professional practice as competent, entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists employed in nutrition therapy, community practice, food service systems management or research by government, public or private sectors.

  • Objective #1.a (Dietetic Internship only): At least 80% of students complete program requirements within 17 months (150% of program length).
  • Objective #1.b (Dietetic Internship + MS): At least 80% of students complete program requirements within 27 months (150% of program length).
  • Objective #1.c: Of graduates who seek employement, 80% are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.
  • Objective #1.d: 100% of program graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.
  • Objective #1.e: The program's one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%.
  • Objective #1.f: At least 25% of graduates will accept positions in the VHA.

Goal #2: Prepare program graduates to meet the practice needs of their employers.

  • Objective #2.a: Over the ACEND assessment period, 100% of employers, who respond to the program survey, will rate graduates' performance as entry-level or above when surveyed after hiring graduates.
  • Objective #2.b: At least 80% of employers, who respond to the program survey, would consider hiring a program graduate in the future.
