Mission
Through excellence in education, research, and service, the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital Dietetic Internship Program strives to prepare confident and competent entry-level dietitians capable of delivering comprehensive care to both Veterans and the general public.
Program Goals and Objectives
Goal #1 –Program graduates will become confident and competent entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.

Nutritionists.
Objective #1a – At least 80% of interns complete program requirements within 150% of planned
program length.
Objective #1b – At least 80 percent of program graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.
Objective #1c – The program’s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%.
Goal #2 – Program graduates will supply the national job market and VA system with a competitive pool of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.
Objective #2a – Of those who respond, at least 90% of employers were satisfied that program graduates were prepared for entry-level practice or better.
Objective #2b – Of graduates who seek employment, at least 80 percent are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.
Objective #2c – An average (three-year average) of 25% of program graduates will secure VA
employment in the VA system within 3 years of graduation.
