CTVHCS Dietetic Internship Program Mission

The mission of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System Dietetic Internship Program is to prepare highly competent entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists using evidence-based practices to achieve quality healthcare in clinical, community, and food service nutrition. Graduates, who will be the future leaders for the profession of dietetics, will promote patient-centered care and exceptional customer service to fulfill the needs of our Nation’s Veterans and their families.

CTVHCS Dietetic Internship Program Goals & Outcome Measures

1. Program graduates will apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through successful completion of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System Dietetic Internship Program to become an entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

  • At least 80% of interns complete the program requirements within 69 weeks (150% of the program length).
  • At least 80% of program graduates will take the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.
  • The program’s one year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%.

2. Graduates will be competent entry-level practitioners who utilize an evidence-based practice approach and promote patient-centered care for Veterans and their families, as well as the community.

  • Of graduates who seek employment, at least 80% are employed in the nutrition and dietetics field within 12 months of graduation.
  • At least 20% of graduates will secure VA employment within 5 years of program completion.
  • At least 80% of employers responding to post graduate surveys will rate the graduates as prepared for entry level practice.
