Stipend
The availability and amount of a stipend varies on an annual basis. The new federal minimum wage is $15.00 per hour. The stipend amount provided averages approximately $1,800.00- $2,000.00 per month after taxes.

Room and board (Tampa)
The intern must bear the expenses for room and board for the internship period and must secure their own housing.
Insurance/Medical Care
Liability, health and hospitalization insurance are required and will be at each dietetic intern's expense. If a dietetic internship appointee is unable to pass the entrance physical, he/she will not be permitted to enter the internship and no expenses incurred in reporting or returning home will be borne by the government. Only emergency health care while on duty will be provided by the hospital.
Cost of insurance coverage will vary widely, depending upon the status of each intern. Many interns should still qualify as dependents in family plans, in which case costs will be minimal. Dietetic interns are eligible for Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers a group membership insurance option for members of the association. Each intern is encouraged to investigate thoroughly and compare plans and options available to him/her to obtain the most adequate coverage at the most reasonable cost.
Library
The dietetic intern will have full use of the hospital library which offers a wide variety of books, periodicals, and services, including Internet, Medline and a videotape listening area. He/she will also have reference use of the University of South Florida Medical School Library and the libraries at affiliating institutions.
Uniforms
Uniforms are not required. Lab coats are supplied by the hospital at no expense to Dietetic Interns. Scrubs are allowed but not supplied by the hospital.
Transportation
Transportation is the responsibility of the dietetic intern, including transportation to and from affiliations or classes. Use of an automobile is required due to limited availability of public transportation in the Tampa area and the need for travel with some rotations.
Office
The interns have their own furnished modular desk, telephone and bookshelves, as well as a filing cabinet. Each desk has a personal computer with internet access and Microsoft Software. There is a scanner and both a color and black and white printer available. Reference books are also available in the intern office.
Other
Random urine drug testing may be requested by affiliates and the cost and arrangements will be the responsibility of the dietetic intern.
Loan Deferment is an option during the Dietetic Internship. The Internship Director is available to complete forms for all dietetic interns.
Financial aid is not available.
