Mission Statement - Internship

The Mission of the Anne Brezina Dietetic Internship Program at the James A. Haley (Tampa) Veterans’ Hospital is to prepare competent entry-level dietitians by providing excellence in applied practices in all areas of Dietetics.  Graduates will serve the needs of Veterans, local communities and the nation by promoting patient-centered care and excellent customer service that encourages innovation through research, consistent with the VA’s Mission.

1. The dietetic internship will prepare entry level graduates who are competent to practice in administrative, clinical and community dietetics.
  • At least 80% of program interns complete the program requirements within 15.25 months/63 weeks (150% of the time).
  • At least 80% of program graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.
  • The program's one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%. 
  • Total Scaled Scores and Scaled Subscores of graduates passing the RD exam annually will exceed the national average of first-time test takers.
  • At least 80% of employer evaluations rate graduates as prepared for entry-level practice as a dietitian.

2. The dietetic internship will ensure that faculty is highly qualified and rotations promote growth and competence.
  • At least 83% of interns indicate on annual program evaluation that internship faculty are good role models in the field of dietetics.
  • At least 83% of interns indicate on the annual program evaluation that the rotations promote growth and competence.

3. Graduates of the dietetic internship will seek to serve the health care needs of Veterans, local communities and the Nation.
  • Of graduates who seek employment, 80% are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.
  • An average (five-year average) of 33% of intern graduates secure VA employment within 3 years of graduation.
